Young Human Rights Changemakers

human rights centered service learning

About Young Human Rights Changemakers

Young Human Rights Changemakers is a fully funded, remote program bringing human rights centered service learning to classrooms. Through the program, students work together to understand the human rights issues their community is facing and create a class project to help address the issue(s). Throughout the process, students gain a deeper understanding of what human rights are and how human rights impact their community. Students also have the chance to see first hand how their actions can have an impact on their community. US based educators will have access to micro-grants of $200 or more to fund the creation of the classroom human rights project.

Human rights are widely seen as one of the key paths to creating a better world, yet they are not taught to a significant portion of students. Even when human rights are included, they are often presented as a document instead of as a tool that can be used to help the world. YHRC not only educates students about human rights, it shows student how they can use human rights to help their community.
